The next big thing in social media: Speekur
Social media has seen a sharp increase in popularity over the past decade, with hundreds of millions of people across the globe using various networks to keep up with friends and family, share ideas and opinions, and discuss political ddevelopmentsevelopments, among other topics. There are several large social media networks that dominate today’s market, but new startups are emerging every day with new features, better security, or greater user anonymity as selling points. What is Speekur?
Speekur is a new network that allows you to find what other people are saying about topics that interest you. I thought of Speekur while I was researching an essay on water waste and came across all these interesting stories with links to different news articles. It wasn’t easy to make sense of everything, so I wondered if there could be an easier way to access information and share it. This is where the idea for Speekur came from.
How does it work?
At its most basic level, speekur is a network that allows users to post their opinions on news topics and other issues of interest. Users vote for or against topics, which are then ranked by overall popularity and have corresponding discussions attached to them. Users can comment on other user’s posts and reply back to replies at will, enabling a potentially chaotic discussion.

It is a free service that allows you to express your views on a wide range of topics. You can also discover new and innovative ideas from other users on all kinds of issues. It is completely independent, as it is not owned by any corporation or organization - keeping news and opinions independent and unbiased.
Who can use it?
Anybody that wants to hear what people have to say about a topic or trend. Though, it’s especially useful for journalists, bloggers and companies looking for feedback on new products. Social networks are constantly changing, and with so many opinions out there on current events or new products, it can be hard to find actual information amongst all of the noise. There’s also a lot of news that isn’t covered by traditional outlets — things like public figures making controversial statements (Kim Kardashian said what?!), viral videos or trending memes — that might be relevant and/or important, but often aren’t seen by many people. So how do you sift through everything?
Why do we need it?
Everyone has a voice, but not everyone can speak. This is particularly true for independent content creators who aren’t mainstream enough to work with Facebook or Twitter. The need for an open network where diverse points of view are heard and shared with like-minded people is clear. It takes a village to raise a child, and that same principle applies to an open society and free press – it takes all of us to make it possible.
